A Plessey 8 bit video DAC was evaluated by using a digitally generated sine wave. The spectrum of its output waveform was measured using an analogue spectrum analyser. This instrument did not have a digital interface so results are photographs. The DAC measurements show that Direct Interpolation digital signal processing in the digital DAC waveform increases the linearity and Spurious Free Dynamic Range significantly by adding 7 bits of interpolation. This in effect makes a 14 bit DAC from an 8 bit DAC.
